Ingredients
- 12 slices of crispy bacon, or as much as you desire
- ½ cup of rich butter
- ½ cup of sweet light brown sugar
- ⅓ cup of golden light corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons of smooth bourbon
- 1 teaspoon of flavorful Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon of spicy chipotle chile powder, or to suit your taste buds
- 2 cans (10 ounces each) of assorted mixed nuts
- 4 cups of crunchy rice cereal squares
- 4 cups of crispy corn cereal squares
- 3 cups of tiny pretzels
- 1 cup of crushed oatmeal cereal squares, like Quaker® Oatmeal Squares
Step 1
In a spacious skillet, sizzle the bacon over medium-high heat, flipping occasionally until it turns perfectly crisp and evenly browned, for approximately 10 minutes. Afterwards, let the bacon slices rest on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
Step 2
Begin by preheating the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line your 1/2-sheet cake pans or large baking pans with parchment paper, making sure to have the paper extend over the edges for easy handling.
Step 3
Next, melt the butter in a large, heat-proof glass measuring cup in the microwave. Then, add in the brown sugar, corn syrup, bourbon, and Worcestershire sauce. Return this buttery mixture to the microwave, heating on high for about 2 minutes.
Step 4
Introduce the chipotle powder into the mix, stirring until it thickens into a sticky, light caramel consistency.
Step 5
In a generous mixing bowl, combine a variety of ingredients like mixed nuts, rice squares, corn cereal, pretzels, oatmeal squares, and the crumbled bacon. Pour the caramel-bourbon concoction over the mixture, using a large silicone spatula to gently fold everything together until all pieces are evenly coated.
Step 6
Spread the snack mix into a thin, uniform layer on the prepared baking pans and pop it into the preheated oven. Bake until the mix becomes dry and crispy, usually around 20 to 25 minutes. Remember to flip the pieces halfway through using the spatula for even baking. Once done, allow it to cool completely on the pan for at least 30 minutes.
Step 7
To finish, lift the edges of the parchment paper to create a pouch and transfer the mix into a clean, spacious mixing bowl. Gently break apart any clumps and then store the snack mix in airtight containers or resealable bags for freshness.
Extra Tips & Suggestions
- 1. Keep your bacon-infused snacks in a cool, dark pantry to maintain their crispiness and flavor profile.
- 2. Store them in airtight jars or containers to prevent moisture from seeping in and compromising their delicious crunch.
