Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cube of chicken bouillon (can be omitted for a different flavor profile)
- A generous pound of fresh asparagus, carefully trimmed
- 4 slices of wholesome whole wheat bread
- 4 slices of rich Cheddar cheese
- A dollop of butter, about a tablespoon
- Season with your preferred amount of salt and pepper to enhance the flavors
Step 1
Prepare a saucepan by filling it halfway with water. Heat the water until it boils, then add a bouillon cube and stir until it dissolves completely. To poach eggs, crack one egg into a measuring cup or a large spoon and gently slide it into the boiling water. Repeat this step for the rest of the eggs. Let them simmer over medium heat for approximately 5 minutes. Once ready, carefully lift the poached eggs out with a slotted spoon and set them aside to keep warm.
Step 2
As the eggs are cooking, take another saucepan and place the asparagus inside. Fill the saucepan with enough water to cover the asparagus. Bring it to a boil and cook the asparagus until it reaches the desired tenderness, which usually takes about 4 minutes. Drain the asparagus once it's done.
Step 3
While the asparagus is cooking, prepare the toast to your preferred level of darkness. Once toasted, spread a layer of butter on each slice. Top the buttered toast with a slice of cheese, followed by a poached egg and the cooked asparagus. Season with a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste. Serve your delicious dish immediately for the best flavor and enjoyment.
Extra Tips & Suggestions
- 1. Freshness First : Before storing asparagus, trim the ends and place them upright in a glass of water in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and crisp.
- 2. Egg-cellent Organization : Store eggs in their original carton in the refrigerator door, as it's the perfect spot for easy access and to keep them safe from temperature fluctuations.
