Ingredients
- Approximately 1/4 cup of olive oil, or more if necessary
- Around 2 pounds of onions, sliced thinly
- Roughly 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
- Approximately 1/3 cup of balsamic vinegar
- About 1/2 pound of bacon
- 10 pieces of lavash or a similar type of flatbread
- A generous 5 cups of pumpkin hummus
- 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced into matchsticks
- A lavish 5 cups of shredded fontina cheese
Step 1
Begin by warming the olive oil in a sizable saucepan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté them until they become soft and take on a golden hue, which usually takes around 10 minutes. Introduce the brown sugar into the mix and continue to cook, ensuring to stir frequently until the onions caramelize and acquire a deep brown color, around 10 additional minutes. Next, pour in the balsamic vinegar and let it simmer until it thickens and transforms into a delightful syrupy consistency.
Step 2
While the onions are caramelizing, place the bacon in a deep skillet and cook it over medium-high heat. Remember to turn the bacon occasionally until it becomes crispy and evenly browned, typically taking about 10 minutes. Once done, drain the bacon on a paper towel-lined plate, crumble it, and set it aside for later use.
Step 3
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Step 4
To assemble the pizzas, start by spreading a generous amount of pumpkin hummus on each piece of lavash and lay them out on a baking sheet. Sprinkle a portion of the caramelized onions on top of the hummus, followed by some apple slices and the crumbled bacon. Finish off by generously sprinkling fontina cheese over the toppings.
Step 5
Pop the assembled pizzas into the preheated oven and bake until the cheese is melted and turns a beautiful golden brown with bubbly edges, usually around 10 minutes.
