Ingredients
- 3 quarts of water
- 2 ½ cups of diced sweet potato
- ¾ cup of rich brown sugar
- ⅓ cup of Tennessee whiskey
- ¼ cup of softened butter
- 2 ¼ teaspoons of aromatic ground cinnamon
- 2 ¼ teaspoons of spicy ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- ¼ cup of butter
- ¾ cup of sweet brown sugar
- 1 ½ cups of finely chopped pecans
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) to get it nice and warm. Start by bringing some water to a boil in a big pot. Cook your sweet potatoes in the boiling water until they're tender, which usually takes about 7 minutes. Once they're ready, drain them and transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Use a potato masher to mash them up until they're nice and smooth.
Step 2
Now it's time to add some delicious flavors! Mix in 3/4 cup of brown sugar, a splash of Tennessee whiskey, 1/4 cup of softened butter, along with some cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir everything together until it's well combined. Spread this flavorful mixture into a 1-quart casserole dish.
Step 3
In a small skillet, melt 1/4 cup of butter over low heat. Add in 3/4 cup of brown sugar and stir until it's all mixed in. Toss in some pecans and cook them, stirring, until they're nicely coated with the buttery sugar mixture, which usually takes about 2 to 3 minutes. Sprinkle these caramelized pecans on top of the sweet potato mixture for a crunchy topping.
Step 4
Pop the casserole dish into your preheated oven and bake until the edges turn a lovely golden brown, which should take around 25 minutes. Enjoy this delicious dish warm and watch it disappear in no time!
Extra Tips & Suggestions
- 1. Start by choosing the right container - opt for a sturdy, airtight casserole dish that can easily transition from oven to fridge.
- 2. Keep your leftovers fresh by sealing them in a container with a tight-fitting lid; this will prevent the flavors from escaping and help maintain the dish's delicious taste.
