- Coarsely grated pear, a half cup's delight,
- Dark soy sauce, three tablespoons in the mix,
- Sesame oil, also three spoons to enhance,
- A tablespoon of mirin, sweet Japanese wine,
- Brown sugar, for a touch of sweetness divine,
- Grated garlic cloves, four for pungent flair,
- Lime juice, a teaspoon to bring some zing,
- Fresh ginger grated, a touch of spice to bring,
- Black pepper ground, a teaspoon's worth,
- Red pepper flakes, a hint of heat on earth,
- Beef top sirloin, a pound thinly sliced,
- For the sauce, soy sauce, a quarter cup rides,
- With water, three spoons, to dilute and blend,
- Gochujang, two tablespoons, a spicy friend,
- Brown sugar, a teaspoon, adds sweetness so fine,
- Mirin, Japanese wine, another teaspoon to combine.
Step 1
Combine a flavorful mixture by whisking scallions, ripe pear, dark soy sauce, fragrant sesame oil, a touch of mirin, a hint of brown sugar, minced garlic, zesty lime juice, fresh ginger, a pinch of black pepper, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes in a mixing bowl. Once well combined, transfer this marinade into a convenient resealable bag. Place the beef in the bag, ensuring it is fully coated with the marinade. Gently press out any excess air before sealing the bag securely. Allow the beef to marinate in the refrigerator for a minimum of 8 hours, or even better, overnight to enhance the flavors.
Step 2
As the beef marinates, prepare the grill by preheating it to a medium-high temperature and lightly oiling the grate to prevent sticking. Once the grill is ready, remove the beef slices from the marinade, setting aside the excess for later use. Grill the beef slices until they are cooked through, approximately 3 minutes per side. Once done, transfer the grilled beef to a serving dish.
Step 3
In a saucepan, combine the reserved marinade with additional soy sauce, water, spicy gochujang, a touch of brown sugar, and a drizzle of mirin. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and simmer until it thickens to a sauce-like consistency, typically 3 to 5 minutes. Drizzle this flavorful sauce over the grilled beef slices just before serving, adding an extra layer of taste and enhancing the overall dish.
